Standardbred mare, age 19, available for adoption. Broke to ride and sound. Located in Baraboo, WI.Queen is an Amish bred Standardbred mare that I bought from a dealer last fall to save her from a slaughter truck headed
to Mexico. She is about 18 years old per teeth, by 2 vets and my Amish farrier. We suspect she was sold because she
did not get in foal. We believe that she was an Amish road horse, and then a broodmare. She is 15.1 ½ HH.
She is easy to handle. She leads well, is good in a stall, trailers well, and stands nicely for grooming and for spraying with
bug spray. She is a real character when it comes to letting us know about something she wants- I think she had quite a
regimented life for a while!
Queen may be a handful to drive as she does not stand still nicely under harness. She also wants to walk off when you
get on her to ride, but this has improved some lately. She has been ridden some here, and with regular riding should
improve a lot.
She shows some signs of stress to her back end and I think she may have had a sprained pelvis at some point from her
hard buggy work. Because of this, I recommend that she have a 175 lb weight limit for riding under saddle. A 16 inch,
FQHB saddle fits her well. She rides in a snaffle bit. She moves off the leg pretty well. She is good on the trail with
another horse, We have not tried riding her out alone. I have seen her pace and also trot, so I am not sure of her
preference yet.
Queen is sensitive to bug bites and loves to be stalled at night to avoid misquitos. She needs grain 2x/day as she is big
bony girl: we given her 2.5 lb per day + a vitamin supplement. Her teeth are in good shape per the vet and were last
floated in the fall of 2023. She is up to date on vaccinations. (E and W Encephalitis, Tetanus, Flu, Rhinovirus, West Nile
Virus) She tested Coggins negative as of 05/16/2024.
We are moving her on to a loving home as we are retired and need to keep our herd numbers down.
